I was reluctant to put this page in, but my accident was a very important part of my Paragliding experience. It all happened on a beautiful October morning. With camera in hand, I was planning to take some beautiful pictures of the New England foliage. Instead of red and yellow Maples, I ended up taking pictures of my injured leg while in the emergency room.
On take off, the propeller struck the back of my leg. Before I could say "OUCH", the flight was over. Realizing that it was a pretty bad cut, I wrapped my leg in my shirt, flagged down a local farmer and went to Dade Kimble Hospital. I remained on cruches for 2 months following a 7 day stay..
I stayed away from flying for almost 1 year and returned to flying only after my wife realized that I was not going to be happy looking up at an empty sky. She told me to go fly again and the story of my return made the May issue of Ultraflight Magazine. |
